$100,000 for Tenterfield Church Revitalisation

Member for Lismore, Thomas George announced that $100,000 will be provided to St Stephen's Presbyterian Church at Tenterfield to revitalise the historic site.  This funding has been made available through the NSW Government's Heritage Near Me Program and includes on the job training for local Year 11 students.

Mr George said the Local Heritage Strategic Project grant would assist the community of Tenterfield in several ways.

"This grant will be used on a visionary project led by John Bradford (see photo insert)  in collaboration with Tenterfield Presbyterian Church, Tenterfield Shire Council, Tenterfield High School and local builder Tom Murphy.

The project involves the repair of the church to allow it to be re-opened and provides onsite educational opportunities for Year 11 Carpentry and Joinery students at Tenterfield High School.  "Tenterfield Council will also offer practical workshops to owners and managers of local heritage items, using the repair of the church as a case study."

The funding is from the Heritage Near Me program's Local Heritage Strategic Project grants, which aim to support local communities to enhance and protect their local heritage assets.

The grants are awarded to owners and managers of local heritage items and community groups.
